Book Review: The Outsider By Stephen King
September 01, 2018
When an eleven-year-old boy is found murdered in a town park, reliable eyewitnesses undeniably point to the town's popular Little League coach, Terry Maitland, as the culprit. DNA evidence and fingerprints confirm the crime was committed by this well-loved man. But Maitland has an alibi. So how can a man be in two places and once?
“Doesn’t look like a monster, does he?” “They rarely do.”
I was slightly hesitant to go into this book purely because I wasn't a super fan of Sleeping Beauties, however this book was something else and I love it. King has brought it back for me with this book. I loved this book from the first chapter until the very end.
I thought the building up in the first half of the book had me hooked and I didn't know which way this book would go. There was so many twists and turns through the book and at no point did i know what would happen until it happened and even then it wasn't what I was expecting. It was better.
The characters in this book are so more fleshed out and memorable then in his 'Sleeping Beauties' and i found myself caring and loving the book even more as they made the whole book seem more real. I also was living for the crossover and connections with another of his characters (Hodges Trilogy) and I loved that it actually worked so well and I think this is one reason why this book was so engaging to me.
I will say as a spoiler, that if you haven't read both 'The Outsider' and 'Bill Hodges Trilogy' then i would recommend reading the Hodges trilogy first as you can be spoiled for it in 'The Outsider' however you do you.
I have to say I can't believe that I waited so long to read this but I am so glad I took my time with it and could fully immerse myself in the story.
