Book Review: The Adversary By Emmanuel Carrère
August 27, 2018
On the saturday morning of January 9th 1993, while Jean Claude Romand was killing his wife and children, I was with mine in a parent-teacher meeting..
'Perhaps Jean Claude was a spy, a peddler of scientific or industrial secrets, but he couldn't have killed his family.'
I was excited to read this book but overall it actually was a little disappointing. While it was laid out and easy enough to follow I felt that there wasn't a lot of facts presented and the writing style (either how the author wrote this book or the translation just wasn't as good as it could have been) it just wasn't gripping enough for me.
I think this book was too short and I felt like I was getting half the story, as i have still only got the gist of the crime and in this respect it feels more like a fiction piece then non-fiction to me. I also found it a little weird that in this non fiction book about this man, that the author then decides to talk about himself and that was something i wasn't fond of.
However it has made me interested in this case and ill be researching more into this case
